My Counseling Philosophy

Broken To Art Counseling is owned and operated by LaSheena Davis LPC, CMHCD, NCC.

My realistic view of the function of counseling is as a healing journey of self-exploration by the client, meant to increase their level of self-understanding and self-awareness. I understand the importance of meeting the client where they are at that moment while understanding where they are trying to get to. Therefore, I act as the guide or facilitator of the journey.

I believe in holistic and integrative therapy as it integrates various elements of different theories into the practice by allowing me, as the clinician, to assist the whole person - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. I believe that counseling is a pathway for growth and healing. It is an opportunity for the client to explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. By building a healthy therapeutic relationship, the therapist can guide the client in discovering more about themselves and their behavior patterns. It also provides a setting that encourages the client to establish new, healthy ways of behavior. I hold space for you to heal by helping you experience the freedom to open your heart without feeling judged, shamed, overwhelmed, or having your power taken away. The key is to use the techniques and psychotherapy tools best suited for a particular client and problem.

As a therapist, I desire to guide or facilitate a client's problem-solving process of their problems while also demonstrating a genuine concern and compassion for their dilemmas. Ultimately, I would encourage the client to draw their conclusions and choose the direction they want to take on their healing journey. I believe the therapeutic process is a partnership in which the therapist and client work as a team to explore current client concerns and work towards identified client goals to achieve the desired outcome.

Overall, my philosophy as a therapist is to treat each person as a unique individual worthy of unconditional acceptance, regardless of their healing journey. I desire to come alongside, challenge and encourage my clients to find healing emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
